Fighting a Crusher is less about emptying the biggest magazine you have and more about keeping the damage flowing. When choosing Helldivers 2 Items for an Illuminate mission, it is worth considering whether your loadout can continue damaging a target while you reload, reposition, or handle smaller enemies.

That matters because Helldivers 2 Items with sustained damage potential can make a major difference against the Crusher. Its regeneration begins only 0.5 seconds after it stops taking damage, so even a short interruption can undo part of the squad's progress. A coordinated team therefore has a clear advantage over several players attacking independently.

Why Short Gaps Matter
The Crusher has a reputation for feeling extremely durable, but its regeneration is a major reason behind that impression.

Imagine three players attack the enemy together. After a few seconds, all three need to reload. During that brief pause, the Crusher can begin recovering. When the team resumes firing, it may feel as if the previous magazine barely mattered.

The solution is to stagger the pressure. One player can keep attacking while another reloads. A third player can handle nearby enemies and then return to the main target. The goal is to make sure the Crusher rarely gets a completely safe moment.

A blue particle effect can indicate that regeneration is taking place, so players should pay attention to the visual feedback instead of assuming every hit is permanent progress.

Choose Continuous Damage
Weapons with high rates of fire are useful because they make it easier to maintain the damage cycle.

An HMG can put sustained pressure on the Crusher, while the Laser Cannon can continuously attack the armored control helmet. These options are especially useful when a squad wants to work toward the vulnerable head without giving the enemy a large opening.

Heavy burst weapons have a different role. An Autocannon or Grenade Launcher can deliver substantial damage quickly, which can help a team reduce the health pool faster than regeneration can compensate.

The important distinction is that sustained and burst damage solve the same problem in different ways. Sustained damage tries to prevent recovery, while heavy bursts try to finish the target before recovery becomes important.

Make Fire and Gas Part of the Plan
A squad does not always need to stare directly at the Crusher to keep it under pressure.

Fire and gas effects can continue dealing damage over time. This is useful when the team has to dive away from an attack or briefly turn its attention toward another enemy.

The Cremator is a useful example of this approach. Continued fire damage can help keep the Crusher from enjoying the uninterrupted window it needs to regenerate.

Gas can also help control the space around the target. A Gas Strike placed appropriately may pressure the Crusher while also making it harder for surrounding enemies to close in.

This does not mean every player needs to bring a damage-over-time option. Having at least one source of continuing damage can give the squad more freedom to reposition without completely abandoning the fight.

Handle the Wretches Quickly
A Crusher encounter can become messy when Wretches join the fight.

These smaller enemies are fast and can leap toward players, forcing the squad to break its firing pattern. That is exactly the kind of interruption the Crusher benefits from.

Instead of allowing Wretches to scatter the team, clear enough of them to create some breathing room. Once the immediate pressure is reduced, everyone can turn back toward the Crusher and resume coordinated attacks.

This is also why positioning matters. Players should avoid standing so close together that one enemy attack forces everyone to move at once.

Use Heavy Stratagems Carefully
Some stratagems are better saved for moments when the Crusher represents an immediate threat.

An Orbital Railcannon Strike or 500kg Bomb can provide extremely high burst damage and potentially remove the target without requiring a prolonged regeneration battle. These tools are valuable when the squad is surrounded, protecting an objective, or simply needs the enemy gone immediately.

However, using every major stratagem on every Crusher can quickly become expensive. If the enemy is isolated and the team has enough ammunition, conventional sustained damage may be enough.

Retreat When Necessary
The Crusher's slow movement is one of the biggest advantages available to the squad.

If the fight is taking place in a bad location, players can create distance and move toward the objective. There is no requirement to stand still and finish every large enemy that appears.

Walking away is particularly reasonable when ammunition is low or additional enemies are constantly arriving. A poorly timed fight can consume more resources than the Crusher is worth.

Build Around Consistency
Crusher regeneration rewards players who think about the entire damage cycle instead of a single attack. Keep one source of damage active whenever possible, stagger reloads, expose the helmet, and use weak points once they become available.

A squad preparing its economy and loadout can also plan ahead if it intends to buy Helldivers 2 Super Credits, giving it another way to prepare for the equipment and content it wants to use across future missions.
